For the Lakers vs. Nuggets game, Jared Vanderbilt and Jalen Hood-Schifino are out. : After missing almost the entire preseason, the Lakers will be without forward Jared Vanderbilt as well as rookie Jalen Hood-Schifino in Tuesday’s season-opener.

Jared Vanderbilt will miss the Lakers’ opening night game at Denver on Tuesday, a decision that has been more or less anticipated since the end of the preseason. Wando has been out since the first preseason game due to heel pain. Rookie Jalen Hood-Schifino will also miss the first game due to his injury.

During the Lakers’ preseason, Vanderbilt suffered his only injury. Wando started the first preseason game, but has since been kept on the bench. Throughout the preseason, the Lakers kept his status a secret and only called him up on a daily basis.

Wando’s injury did not cause much concern for the Lakers, although that may have been intentional. As of right now, it doesn’t look like this will be a long-term illness, although there was a time when it was unlikely he would miss the preseason due to this injury.

His injury seems to be a little more serious regarding JHS. Hood-Schifino missed the second half of the Lakers’ exhibition schedule after suffering a knee injury during a preseason game against the Warriors.

According to the Lakers, he was also declared ineligible on Tuesday, and will miss the first week of the season until re-evaluated on November 3.

Knee injuries are not something JHS has a history with in college, although the nature of how the injury occurred does not suggest it is any kind of past issue. It’s an unfortunate break for the Lakers, but hopefully it won’t keep the rookie out of action for long.

Luckily, when it comes to JHS, the expectations for his role weren’t too high, so he’ll have time to recover without any added pressure.

But stop me if you’ve heard this before: We won’t be able to fully assess the Lakers until Wando gets healthy.
